攝影作為敘事藝術

本課程目的,在於給予學員攝影敘事的入門技巧,以及對攝影史的初步認識;當中亦會透過解讀古今大師的作品,介紹學者就分析相片所建立的理論框架。進一步讓學員擴闊視野,理解影像敘事的思考模式,從而學會用相片創作自己的圖像故事。

第一課, 簡介

  • 世上第一張照片
  • 了相片的謊話 ( John Beger, Susan Sontag )

 第二課, 拍攝自身 / 相片作為身份認同 (自拍照)

  • 我們如何透過相機 / 相片觀照自己
  • Michael Mauracher (Portrait of a Man)

 第三課 , 家庭相簿

  • 爸爸媽媽是攝影大師, 閱覽一些特別家長的藝術級家庭相簿。
  • 男對女, 討論Nicholas Nixon (Browns Sister, Family Pictures) and Sally Mann (Immediate Family , South point)

 第四課 , 假日照片和隨手拍

  • 任何人都能做攝影師!1891年柯達盒子攝影機:「你只要按掣,其他我們攪定!」
  • 多於快樂回憶—階級和旅遊, Martin Parr (The Last Resort, Small World, Common Sense and The Boring Postcard) and Simmons Laurie (Tourism Series)

Photography as Narrative Art

This course is designed to give par­ti­cipants an intro­duc­tion to the fun­da­mental story telling tech­niques of pho­to­graphy and beyond, sup­ple­mented with a walk-through of master works in dif­ferent sub­ject mat­ters as well as the approach and ana­lyt­ical frame­work developed by various western the­or­ists. The course will not only open up ones eyes but also enhance the way ones mind thinks, enabling the stu­dent to under­stand how to fashion their own story through the pho­to­graphic image.

Lesson 1, Introduction

  • The First pho­to­graph in the world

Lesson 2, Self por­traits / Photography as a form of identification

  • How do we see ourselves through a camera / photography
  • Michael Mauracher (Portrait of a Man)

Lesson 3, The Family Album

  • Every mother and father is a great pho­to­grapher: We will look at examples of a few rather ‘spe­cial’ par­ents whose family albums have become a work of art
  • Man Vs Woman: Discussion on Nicholas Nixon (Browns Sister, Family Pictures) and Sally Mann (Immediate Family , South point)

Lesson 4, Holiday Photos and Snapshots

  • Anyone can be a Photographer!: The 1891 Kodak box camera ” You press the bottom, We do the rest”
  • More than a Happy Memory – Status and Tourism: Martin Parr (The Last Resort, Small World, Common Sense and The Boring Postcard) and Simmons Laurie (Tourism Series)

Lesson 5, The land is beau­tiful or Is it?

  • From the 19th cen­tury to modern Hong Kong – Should Pictorialist fol­lowers still be hon­oured as master?

  • New Topography of the 1970 ( Robert Adams, Baltz Lewis )
